Pith and Vinegar
A few weeks ago, quite by accident, I discovered that my latest digital point-n-shoot also captures time-lapse video. I didn’t buy the camera for its video features so I hadn’t paid much attention to that aspect. One day though, I thought I’d capture a little video of something and when I played the recording back, it went by in a flash. I checked the camera settings and it turned out I’d accidentally set the video capture to Time Lapse.
I’ve been playing with the time-lapse feature here at the studio. I’m fascinated by the way this technique compresses and re-presents processes, and I wanted to see what a portrait sitting would look like compressed in time. You can see the results on my new blog, Pith and Vinegar.
Why a blog?
We’ve been publishing our monthly newsletter, In Focus, and this column for just over a year. My writing has been well received even as the subject matter has wandered all over the thematic map. Our picture of the month feature has also proven popular.
I’d like to narrow the scope of my monthly newsletter column a bit and stick to subjects more closely related to my professional life and Sutton Studios. I’ve started Pith and Vinegar as a repository for other random thoughts and musings that come up between my monthly columns or that just wouldn’t fit into the newsletter - like showing off the time-lapse discovery mentioned above.
We’ll use Pith and Vinegar to keep you apprised of some of our community service efforts as well, like donations to silent auctions, and other community or studio news.
Our newsletter’s picture of the month feature has been well received, and it’s been fun for us. Each month when it comes time for me to select a picture of the month, it’s just too hard to choose. With Pith and Vinegar we’re introducing a Picture of the Week feature that will give us a chance to show you more pictures.
If you like (or don’t like) what you read or see at Pith and Vinegar, let us know. Blogs were designed to be conversational and we’re looking forward to hearing what you have to say.
