SPOTLIGHT

Rebecca, Abigail and Cookie

When Lee brought Rebecca, Abbie and Cookie to Sutton Studios, the girls were giggly with anticipation. Among their hopes was that one of their photographs would be selected for the Pith and Vinegar blog's Picture of the Week. On October 27th, the girls got their wish, and we talked to the family about their experience.

Lee explains the impetus for the visit. "We purchased a sitting and portrait package at a silent auction for the girls' school, St. Joe's of Wilmette. We had been talking about getting the girls' portrait taken for years but hadn't gotten around to it. We figured that buying the package at the auction would be the best way to ensure we finally did. The experience was amazing and we would recommend it to anyone."

When asked how Cookie came to be part of the family, Rebecca said, "We met Cookie when we bought her at the pet store. It was a snow day so we didn't have school. We didn't even tell Daddy we were going. We picked up all the puppies at the store and she was the only one that didn't try to get away. She just hugged me back. We brought her home and called Daddy. Good thing he loves her, even though she poops in the house sometimes."

How would the girls describe their visit to Sutton Studios? Abbie chimes in, "The man that took our pictures was funny. He made me laugh and I liked him. Cookie liked him too. He gave her treats."

Is there anything they would like other kids to know before they visit the studio? "Yes," Rebecca says, they should, "dress nice and smile pretty."

REFLECTION & REFRACTION

David Sutton David takes on Scrooge for Season of Concern at the Goodman Theatre

YOU ARE INVITED!

The holiday tradition of kids posing for photos with Old Saint Nick goes to the dogs when Goodman Theatre hosts its 2nd annual "Pooch on Scrooge," Saturday November 14, from 9:00am - 11:30am at the theater (170 North Dearborn Street).

Well-behaved dogs-on-leashes are invited to dress up for the occasion and pose for a "quick take" portrait by David, with Ebenezer Scrooge of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

The event is free, though the Goodman suggests a donation of $10 for Season of Concern, a local organization which provides compassionate care to those in the theater community experiencing the effects of catastrophic illness.

There is limited capacity for this event; reservations are strongly recommended. RSVP online and you will be automatically entered to win a free sitting with David at Sutton Studios.

Each dog owner will receive a digital photo of their "Pooch on Scrooge," perfect for holiday cards, e-mails or refrigerator doors. The hound in the best holiday attire will win a gift basket, compliments of Barker and Meowsky - A Paw Firm, including tickets to the Goodman's 32nd annual production of A Christmas Carol (running in the Albert Theatre, November 20 - December 31).

Goodman Theatre will admit only well-behaved, child-friendly, house-trained dogs on leashes. Owners should not bring aggressive/anti-social dogs or dogs that bite. The Goodman reserves the right to ask owners with poorly behaved dogs to leave the event.

Click on the cover to view each month's images!

We're thrilled to have already distributed 6,500 of the 10,000 2010 Dog Days calendars to area animal welfare organizations.

Act now to get yours in time for the holidays! Here's how:

1. Purchase calendars from a local animal welfare agency. We donate the calendars to these organizations, so 100% of the price you pay goes directly to them to assist their efforts to provide shelter and human companions for needy animals. Call your favorite shelter and ask if they are selling the calendar, or pick your new favorite from this list of participating agencies.

2. Shop online through our website. Proceeds from online sales of the calendar will go towards production of the 2011 edition. And here's a tip - since you have to pay for shipping, consider buying multiple calendars at once to save money.
